Andy is the Managing Partner of our San Francisco office and serves as a member of Ericksen Arbuthnot's Board of Directors. Admitted to the California Bar in 1983, Mr. Sclar joined the firm in 1985. He is AV® Peer Review Rated by Martindale Hubbell. He has also been named a Northern California Super Lawyer for 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Andy is also Co-Chair of Ericksen Arbuthnot's Insurance Coverage practice group. He advises clients by issuing coverage opinions on a wide range of insurance issues arising under general liability, property, and errors and omissions policies, standard form and manuscript, primary and excess. Andy also represents clients in insurance coverage litigation, including declaratory relief actions, defense of extra contractual liability claims, insurance policy rescission actions, and subrogation and contribution actions under additional insured endorsements.

Andy is a member of Ericksen Arbuthnot’s Professional Liability practice group. He has a strong track record in defending lawyers, real estate agents and brokers, insurance agents and brokers, psychologists, and other health care professionals. His legal malpractice clients have varied fields of expertise including bankruptcy, tax, trust and estates, and personal injury.

Andy has a broad range of additional experience handling construction defect and construction site accident cases, as well as wrongful termination, premises liability, products liability, commercial and residential landlord-tenant matters, and commercial trucking.

He has successfully conducted jury trials in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and in California Superior Courts in San Francisco, San Mateo, Alameda, and Contra Costa counties. He also has received favorable results for clients in bench trials and binding arbitration proceedings.

Andy has developed a successful appellate practice, prevailing numerous times in the California Court of Appeals and in the Ninth Circuit on a host of issues ranging from insurance coverage, insurance policy rescission, contract interpretation, enforcement of client contractual obligation to pay attorney for legal services, to jurisdictional and procedural issues.
