Mike's practice includes state court and federal court litigation involving a wide range of professional liability cases, including healthcare professionals of all types, public entity liability, products liability, premises liability, construction litigation, transportation and trucking litigation, business contract disputes, trade secret litigation, risk avoidance, unfair business practices litigation, toxic torts, and wrongful death cases of all kinds. He is experienced in employment law, including wrongful termination matters, employment discrimination, and ADA litigation. Mike also handles appellate matters in all state and federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court.
Mike has worked for many major insurers, many smaller specialized insurance companies, large self-insured entities, and numerous public entities and self-insurance agencies. He has handled many multi-million dollar claims, and tried several to verdict, with no million dollar verdicts ever returned against his clients. He has had great success with summary judgment motions and 12(b)(6) motions in the federal courts, to extricate his clients from meritless claims.
Mike has been with Ericksen Arbuthnot for more than 20 years, the first 17 years as manager in our Fresno Office, and the past 3 years as a Senior Counsel in that office. Prior to joining the firm, Mike served as chief trial counsel for a major insurance company and was in private practice. For five years, he was County Counsel for Madera County, and served as a law clerk for a federal judge in the Central District of California when he graduated from law school.
