Senior Counsel Kara L. Wild Presents Webinar to ECHO (Educational Community for Homeowners Association)
July 16, 2020
On June 26, 2020, Senior Counsel on the Firm’s Oakland/East Bay office, Kara L. Wild, presented a webinar entitled “Common Problems and Effective Solutions for Small HOAs” to ECHO, comprised of members representing homeowners associations throughout the State of California. ECHO is a non-profit organization that has been assisting community associations since 1972.
Kara’s presentation focused on common issues faced by homeowners associations, including recruiting candidates to serve on the board of directors, maintaining a sufficient reserve fund for repairs and maintenance, and managing the HOA. She also discussed potential creative solutions for associations and the importance of educating themselves on these issues, members seeing themselves as part of a greater community, and not leaving it to their board of directors to handle on their own. While most associations struggle with these challenges to some degree, smaller associations are especially limited due to having so few members, which is especially concerning considering that smaller associations are the most ubiquitous in the state. An estimated 68 percent of the 55,000 associations in California have fewer than 50 units.
Kara’s webinar proved to be one of the most popular in ECHO’s summer slate, attracting 250 registrants, including from out of state members and non-members. If you would like to view Ms. Wild’s webinar, click on the link below.
